Štiřín chateau

Ringhofferova 711, 251 68 Kamenice

Style of architecture Baroque

The fortress on the site of the chateau was built as early as the beginning of the 15th century, but it did not become a significant part of history until 1562, when King Maximilian spent the night here. In the aftermath of the devastating 30 Years' War, the fortress was transformed into a castle. Only three rooms on the ground floor remain from the original building. However, it was not until 1750 that it acquired much of its present appearance. The three-winged layout of the chateau was created then. In 1822, Prince Rohan, later Count Nostic-Rheinek, acquired the Štiřín estate with the chateau. Under him, further building interventions took place. František Ringhoffer from nearby Kamenice bought the castle in 1870 and his family owned it until the revolutionary year 1945.

At the beginning of the 1950s, the building belonged to the then Ministry of Education and the chateau was used for training and recreation of ROH members. Between 1985 and 2007, the chateau and the park were significantly repaired and renovated with the aim of creating a hotel, conference and cultural facility with the possibility of sports and relaxation. In 1995, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic established the Hotel Zámek Štiřín, a contributory organization.

The chateau chapel

The magnificent chateau chapel, dating from the second half of the 18th century, has a domed vault with frescoes of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and figures of the Evangelists, with frescoes of saints in the frames between the ornamental decoration of the walls; the work is attributed to the Italian painter G. Doveri. The main altar, in Baroque style with Venetian mirrors, bears on its tuba the Salm (two salmon in the leap) and Sternberg (eight-pointed star) emblems of the Alliance, with the year 1775.

The castle park

With a major Baroque reconstruction, a park with a greenhouse was created at Štiřín Castle in the second half of the 18th century. The basis for today's landscape composition was laid at the end of the 19th century, during the years when the estate was owned by the Rinhoffer family. In 1985, a purposeful and expert conservation restoration of the then twelve-hectare castle park began, which today ranks as one of the leading historic gardens and parks in the Czech Republic. The example of the Štířín Chateau Park shows how new elements can be incorporated into the original composition in a very sensitive way so that the heritage value of the site is not compromised.

Arminia House

The Arminius House is a building from the second half of the 18th century, built on the foundations of a 15th-century farm building adjacent to the fortress of Štřín, which also included a brewery with hop and mill houses, a sheepfold, a brickworks and a forge.
